# Can I refuse that my child have a vaccine?

In Québec, parents generally have the right to decide whether their child is vaccinated, as part of parental authority under C.c.Q. art. 603. However, if parents disagree or if a refusal puts the child’s health or development at risk, the Superior Court may intervene under C.c.Q. arts. 33 and 604, applying the best interests of the child standard. In rare public health emergencies, section 123 of the Public Health Act allows authorities to order vaccination or isolation to protect public safety.
