# Does my child have a right to a relationship with grandparents in Quebec?

Quebec law recognizes the child's relationship with grandparents. Under article 611 of the Civil Code of Québec, the father and mother cannot, without a serious reason, interfere with personal relations between the child and the grandparents; if the parties disagree, the terms of those relations are set by the court. As always, the governing standard is the best interests of the child under article 33 C.c.Q., so the question is not the grandparents' entitlement in the abstract but what serves the child. A parent who wishes to limit contact generally needs a reason connected to the child's interest—such as a genuine safety or welfare concern—rather than personal conflict with the grandparents.
