# How is child support calculated in Quebec?

In Québec, child support is determined using a mandatory provincial formula under articles 587–590 of the Civil Code of Québec and the Regulation respecting the determination of child support payments. Both parents must complete the Child Support Determination Form, which calculates the basic parental contribution using each parent’s gross annual income, the number of dependent children, and the custody arrangement. The formula is tied to a government table (Annex I of the Regulation) that sets standard amounts. Additional special expenses—such as child care, health, or education costs—are added proportionally to each parent’s income. The resulting amount represents the base monthly support unless a justified deviation is proven under article 590 C.c.Q.
