How long does DPJ process last?

The length of a DPJ process depends on the urgency, complexity, and court involvement. Under ss. 45, 76, and 90–92 of the Youth Protection Act, the DPJ must act quickly, assessing a report within a few days and deciding whether to take measures or refer to court. Temporary placements or supervision measures are reviewed regularly, usually every six months, to ensure they still serve the child’s best interests. Some cases close within weeks, while others requiring court oversight can last a year or more until stability is achieved.
