# How to contest a property valuation during the division of assets?

In Québec, when spouses disagree on the valuation of property during the division of assets, each may present independent expert evidence to the Superior Court. Under C.c.Q. arts. 417–418 and 424, the value is determined at the date of separation or judgment, and proof must meet the standards of C.p.c. arts. 280–282 on expert testimony. A party can file a counter-appraisal by a certified evaluator or request that the court appoint a neutral expert. The judge will compare reports and may order a new valuation if fairness requires it.
