Is it a social worker or a psychologist who evaluates me during a DPJ investigation?

In Québec, during a Director of Youth Protection (DYP) investigation, the initial assessment is performed by a social worker employed or mandated by the DYP under ss. 32 and 45 of the Youth Protection Act. Their role is to evaluate whether the child’s safety or development is compromised. A psychologist is only involved if there are specific mental health or parental capacity concerns requiring clinical expertise. The professional reports are then used to determine if the case proceeds to voluntary measures or to court intervention.
