# What procedural remedies exist when one spouse conceals or dissipates assets?

In Québec, when one spouse hides, transfers, or wastes assets, the other may request immediate procedural remedies to protect their share. Under C.c.Q. arts. 418 and 419, the court can order compensation or restitution of the asset’s value during partition. Procedurally, C.p.c. arts. 20, 49, and 510–511 allow the spouse to seek injunctions, safeguard orders, or a freeze on bank accounts and property to prevent further dissipation. Evidence of concealment—such as unexplained withdrawals or asset transfers—should be documented quickly, as the court can also infer bad faith and adjust the final division accordingly.
