What triggers DPJ involvement?
The Director of Youth Protection (DPJ) becomes involved when a child’s security or development is considered compromised. Under ss. 38–38.2 of the Youth Protection Act, this includes neglect, physical or psychological abuse, sexual abuse, exposure to domestic violence, or a child’s serious behavioral disturbance. Anyone who suspects such a situation must report it. Once a report is received, the DPJ assesses whether the situation requires protective measures or court intervention.
