**Rita Nehmé** is an Associate at Goldwater Droit, where her practice covers family law, youth protection, and civil litigation.

She appears before the Superior Court and the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec across a broad range of matters: divorce and separation, custody and parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, the partition of assets, and youth protection proceedings. Her trial record includes contested custody files with teenagers, provisions for costs, child-support orders, and court-authorized psychosocial evaluations. In youth protection, she has negotiated consent agreements maintaining shared custody.

Committed to a collaborative approach, Me Nehmé emphasizes the use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. She firmly believes that a well-informed client is an empowered client and invests considerable time and energy in building enduring relationships of trust. She is dedicated to making the law accessible, clear, and comprehensible, even in the most challenging circumstances. When litigation is required, she advocates with conviction for the rights and interests of those she represents.

She completed her articling at Legal Aid, pleading near-daily in mental health, family, and housing files before the Court of Québec and the Superior Court. She then practised at a boutique family-law firm in Laval and subsequently at a regional firm before joining Goldwater Droit in 2025. She earned her LL.B. from the Université de Montréal in 2018 and joined the Quebec Bar in 2023. She is a member of the Quebec Family Law Lawyers Association (AAADFQ).

She works in French, English, Arabic, and Spanish.

If not a lawyer, she would have chosen journalism, another way, in her view, to uphold the truth and give voice to those too seldom heard.

##### LITIGATION & PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS

- [_Brousseau c. Bélanger (2025)_](https://canlii.ca/t/kfc0h) - Appeared as counsel for the defendants before the _Cour du Québec_ in a $20,000 civil dispute over whether a sum transferred from a mother to her son and daughter-in-law constituted a loan or a gift; opposed a motion to dismiss filed by the plaintiff; the Court rejected the motion and allowed the matter to proceed to trial, finding that while a signed attestation of gift created a presumption in favour of the defendants, the plaintiff retained the right to attempt to prove a contrary verbal agreement.
- [_Droit de la famille — 241040 (2024)_](https://canlii.ca/t/k5r0m) - Advocated for the mother in a Superior Court custody dispute involving two teenagers (ages 16 and 13); obtained exclusive custody of the daughter, maintained shared custody of the son on alternating weeks, and secured a $9,000 provision for costs; the Court also ordered retroactive child support and authorized psychological consultations for the daughter.
- [_Protection de la jeunesse — 246831 (2024)_](https://canlii.ca/t/kb06s) - Acted for the mother before the Youth Division of the _Cour du Québec_ in a youth protection proceeding concerning an eleven-year-old child; negotiated a consent agreement maintaining shared custody, with court-ordered psychological evaluations for both the child and the parents, and a twelve-month period of supervised involvement by the Director of Youth Protection.
- [_M.B. c. CISSS A Hôpital A CanLII (2023)_](https://canlii.ca/t/jx478) - Appeared for the applicant before the _Tribunal administratif du Québec_ (Social Affairs Division) in an appeal challenging involuntary psychiatric hospitalization; argued that the danger to self was not sufficiently established and that detention should not serve as an interim measure pending judicial authorization for forced treatment; the Tribunal maintained the detention.
