Shannen Valente-Kent

Shannen Valente-Kent is an Associate at Goldwater Droit, where her practice covers family-law litigation matters such as divorce and separation, custody and parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, and partition of family assets.

Shannen has shown a renewed interest in both family and criminal law throughout the various steps of her educational journey. The drive behind her legal career has been to promote equality among the vulnerable and assist others the way she would want her loved ones to be assisted. In light of her civil and commercial background, there is no doubt that Shannen’s attention to detail, her capacity to think outside of the box and her eagerness to learn will add value to each mandate she obtains.

Before law school, she worked as a paralegal at a boutique civil and commercial litigation firm in downtown Montreal, assisting corporate clients through proceedings and negotiating settlements, experience that informs the analytical rigour she brings to family-law files. She obtained her LL.L. from the University of Ottawa in 2020, having earlier completed a DEC in Paralegal Technology at O'Sullivan College in 2016. She joined the Quebec Bar in 2021 and has practised at Goldwater Droit since that year. She is a member of the Young Bar of Montreal and of the Quebec Family Law Lawyers Association (AAADFQ).

She works in French and English across drafting, negotiation, and trial.

If not a lawyer, she would have become a forensic psychologist because it is a discipline that, like family law litigation, rewards exactly the qualities she brings to a file: the patience to follow every thread, a methodical eye for what others miss, and the dogged refusal to leave a question unanswered.
